How sweep it is! 'Dogs take twinbill, 7-2 in both games

Portland now 4-3 against Binghamton this season
Portland, Maine - The Sea Dogs (11-19) swept the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (14-16) in a doubleheader at Hadlock Field on Thursday night, winning both games by a score of 7-2.  Portland has won a season-high four straight games.

Game 1 Recap

The Sea Dogs scored three runs with two outs in the first inning and took game one 7-2.

Portland pounded 13 hits over six innings, including two triples and three RBIs by Tate Matheny, and two hits apiece for Danny Mars, Cole Sturgeon, and Luke Tendler.

Matt Kent (W, 1-1) was terrific in a spot start.  The lefty worked five scoreless innings and allowed only two hits while striking out seven.

Tyler Thornburg made another relief appearance for Portland as he continued his Major League Rehab Assignment and allowed two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Joseph Shaw (L, 0-3) allowed seven runs on 12 hits over 4.2 innings in the start for Binghamton.

Game 2 Recap

Dedgar Jimenez threw a complete-game two-hitter as the Sea Dogs took game two 7-2.

Jimenez (W, 1-2) struck out a career-high nine in the victory and walked just one while hitting a batter.

Portland jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of game two and never looked back,, adding runs in the second and third to extend the lead to 7-0.

Luke Tendler had two hits - including a solo homer - and three RBIs for Portland. He also scored twice.  Chad De La Guerra, Cole Sturgeon, Jeremy Rivera, and Tony Renda each added two hits apiece.

Johnny Magliozzi (L, 0-1) lasted just an inning in the spot start for Binghamton.  Austin McGeorge, David Roseboom, and Eric Hanhold combined to pitch the final five innings and fanned 10 while allowing just two runs.
