Lyman Moore To Host Naturalization Ceremony May 11

PORTLAND, Maine – Lyman Moore Middle School students will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be an American when the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) naturalizes 39 candidates for citizenship during a ceremony at the school on Friday, May 11.

Lyman Moore Middle School Principal Ben Donaldson will provide welcoming remarks at the 10 a.m. ceremony.  Two students from the school will provide keynote remarks to Maine’s newest citizens. The Portland Symphony Orchestra and the Lyman Moore Middle School Chorus will perform the national anthem and other musical selections.  Students will also lead the Pledge of Allegiance and recite “The New Colossus,” a poem that is engraved on the Statue of Liberty. 

USCIS Portland Field Office Director Cindy Lembarra will administer the Oath of Allegiance to the candidates.

The 39 citizenship candidates originate from the following 26 countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, People’s Republic of China, Congo Kinshasa, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, India, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Republic of China-Taiwan, Russia, Rwanda, Somalia South Africa, Sudan, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, and Vietnam.
