Gurney, Hathaway, Saintard, & Coaching Staff Receive Major Awards; Eight Other Eagles Honored

WATERVILLE, Maine – The 2018 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field postseason awards have been released. The coaching staff and 11 athletes have been honored.

Husson senior Robenson Saintard (Port Charlotte, Fla.) and sophomore Eric Hathaway (Pittsfield, Maine) have been selected the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Men's Track & Field Track Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Year, while freshman teammate Zion Gurney (Auburn, Maine) earned Rookie of the Year honors and Colby-Sawyer's Curtis Warren(Morrill, Maine) was voted the Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year. Husson head coach Kate Goupee was chosen as the Coach of the Year and eight men's track and field student-athletes were named to the Sportsmanship Team to headline the 2018 All-Conference announcement.

NAC All-Conference "Athlete of the Year" selections are determined by a vote of the conference coaches.

	Saintard claimed Track Athlete of the Year after a standout first season with the Eagles. The senior recorded an impressive showing throughout the season, including two individual first-place finishes and a first-place finish as part of a relay at the 2018 NAC Championship, helping the Eagles earn their first NAC title. He earned the title of NAC Champion in the 100m (11.14), 200m (22.73), and the 4x100m relay (43.55). His 100 and 200 times qualified him for New England Regionals, while he and his teammates set a new meet record in the 4x100. He was named NAC Track Athlete of the Week twice this season.
	Hathaway collects his first NAC Field Athlete of the Year honor after scoring 22 points for the Eagles at the 2018 NAC Championship. The junior recorded first, second, and fourth-place finishes at the conference championship. He started the day earning fourth-place points in the discus throw (35.80m) and followed that performance with a runner-up finish in the shot put (13.30m). He ended his day with a first-place finish in the hammer, which proved to be an important 10 points that his team needed at that moment. His toss of exactly 50 meters set a personal and school record, while also smashing the conference record by over eight meters. Under pressure, he also qualified for New England Regionals with his hammer distance. Hathaway claimed one NAC Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
	Gurney has made an immediate impact during his first season of competition to earn him NAC Rookie of the Year honors. The rookie scored 20 points for the 2018 NAC Champion Eagles, competing in three very technical events. He started the day earning second-place points in the high jump with a height of 1.83m, which tied his season-best mark. He then earned third-place points in the pole vault with a height of 3.20m, also tying his best mark in the event. To end his day, he competed in the triple jump where he held his seed to take third but improved his season best with a distance of 12.24m. Gurney claimed one NAC Rookie of the Week honor this season.
	Warren is being recognized for excelling academically and athletically throughout his undergraduate experience. The Exercise Science major has been named to the Dean's List every semester at Colby-Sawyer. He is a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society and is a two-time NAC All-Academic honoree. The senior was honored with the 2018 Colby-Sawyer Scholar-Athlete Award and the 2018 Colby-Sawyer Award, which is given annually to one senior who "best exemplifies the ideals of the college in personal dignity, intellectual growth, contribution to campus life and constructive influence on other students." Warren has served as the President of the Exercise and Sport Science Majors Club and has honed his leadership skills by participating in an Emerging Leaders Program at Colby-Sawyer. He earned the title of captain of the Chargers track and field squad for two years and has also been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on campus. He is a six-time New England Qualifier in the pole vault (indoor/outdoor), while also setting school records in the event. He has made the NAC All-Conference Team twice in the pole vault and once in the 110m hurdles. At the 2018 NAC Championships, he placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.91) and earned first-place points in the pole vault (3.95m).
	Goupee's squad was selected to finish second in the pre-championship poll after finishing third a season ago and her team was ready to take on that challenge. The Eagles excelled, claiming their first NAC Championship Title this season with 198 points, beating out two-time defending champion Colby-Sawyer by 16 points. The third-year mentor saw her student-athletes score first-place points in nine events and second-place points in six events at this year's conference meet. Notably, three of Goupee's Eagles, Robenson Saintard, Eric Hathaway, and Zion Gurney, earned NAC Track and Field major honors this season.

The NAC Men's Track & Field Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. The honorees are individuals who have positively affected the track and field culture and environment and whose behavior clearly demonstrates sportsmanship and integrity that go beyond the competition rules and etiquette. The following eight individuals have been selected to the NAC Men's Track & Field Sportsmanship Team, Castleton junior Austin Beauregard(Benson, Vt.), Colby-Sawyer senior Justin Enright (Hubbardston, Mass.), SUNY Delhi sophomore Tyler Magnan (South Kortright, N.Y.), UMaine-Farmington senior Robbie Hollis (Auburn, Maine), Husson junior Jake Dobos (Northwood, Conn.), Johnson senior Erik Crosby (Springfield Vt.), Lyndon junior Robert Denton III (Providence, R.I.) and UMaine-Presque Isle junior Samson Carpenter (Seoul, South Korea).

The first-place and second-place finishers in each event at the NAC Championship have earned NAC All-Conference Team honors.
