After a day of challenging conditions of strong and extremely shifty winds the Mariners were able to place first at the Apprenticeshop Team Racing Regatta. Boothbay came in at a close second, only to lose by one point. Isleboro placed 3rd. Five teams competed, sailing 30 races overall. Each team raced against another team for 3 rounds. Winds were 15-20 knots gusting up to 25. Because of the strong winds the regatta was sailed close in the harbor giving spectators a perfect view.
Skippers Hugh Levitt, Simon Morin and Calvin James, all seniors, showed their experience and were able to execute team racing moves in the tough conditions. Their next regatta will be at Maine Maritime Academy May 12th and 13th to defend their State Championship Title.
The final scores were:
Teams Wins Losses
Camden 11 1
Boothbay 10 2
Isleboro 6 6
Rockland 3 9
Portland 0 12
