After falling behind 1-0, the Mules kept the packed crowd at
Bowdoin quiet for most of the game with a big second and third period.
Colby improves to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the league heading into
Friday's 7 p.m. home game with Connecticut College.
Game MVP
Lawrence was honored with the Peter Schuh Memorial Trophy after
earning game MVP honors with 32 saves. He is first in the NESCAC in save
percentage (.949) of goalies with 70 stops or more. Lawrence has 149
saves and owns a 1.60 goals against average.
Game highlights
* The Mules swept the season series for the second straight year and have won five of the last six games over the Polar Bears.
* Colby fell behind 1-0 on Friday night in a 4-2 win at Alfond
Rink. The same situation happened again when Bradley Ingersoll scored on
the power play for Bowdoin at 11:13 of the first period on a blast from
the point.
* The Mules tied the game with just 47 seconds left in the first
period on a power play goal by Nick O'Connor, who tipped in Spencer
Hewson's shot from the point. J.P. Schuhlen had the secondary assist on
the play.
* Zack Hale scored the game-winning goal just 2:34 into the second
period on a nice piece of hustle. Griffin Fadden had a shot blocked back
directly to him and immediately passed to Hale near the left post.
Hale's original shot was saved, but he followed in and made a diving
effort to knock the puck in for the 2-1 lead. Fadden and Hewson had the
assists on the play.
* The Mules went up 3-1 on their second of three power play goals.
Andrew Reis received a pass from first-year Billy Overby and ripped a
shot from out near the blue line. The shot was deflected in by O'Connor
for his second goal of the game and his league-leading fourth of the
year.
* Michael Rudlof put the Mules up 4-1 heading into the third period
after Colby had just killed a penalty. Justin Grillo had his third
assist of the season.
* The goals kept coming in the third period from Mario Benicky, who
scored his league-leading fourth of the season at 14:51. Thomas
Stahlhuth, who had the game-winning goal Friday, had his shot saved by
Bowdoin goalie Peter Cronin. However, Benicky was right on top of the
play and stuffed in the rebound. Kienan Scott had the secondary assist.
* Scott, the league leader in points with eight (3 goals, 5
assists), closed out the scoring at 18:39 on the power play from
O'Connor and Phil Klitirinos.
