No. 18 men's squash remains undefeated, defeats Vassar and Haverford

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The No. 18 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team got strong play up and down the lineup on its way to a 9-0 win over Vassar and a 7-2 victory over Haverford on Saturday.

With the pair of wins, the Bobcats (4-0) stay undefeated on the young season. They won't compete again until Friday, January 12 when they host Middlebury.

The Brewers (4-7) were no match for the Bobcats in a match that got underway at 10:00 a.m with Bates sweeping all eight matches and winning the ninth by default.

First-year Robby Dewey (New Canaan, Conn.) turned in the most dominating performance of the morning with a 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-0) win at the No. 8 position over Vassar's Andrew Solender. Fellow first-years Omar Attia (Cairo, Egypt) and Dylan Muldoon (Devonshire, Bermuda) won 3-0 (11-0, 11-4, 11-2) at the No. 4 and 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-2) at the No. 7 positions respectively.

At the top of the ladder, sophomore Graham Bonnell (Southport, Conn.) won 3-0 (11-2, 11-1, 11-2) over Viraj Nadkarni. Fellow sophomores Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Benni McComish (Williamstown, Mass.) shined as well. Rothenberg beat Isaac Stuart 3-0 (11-4, 11-1, 11-2) at the No. 5 position and McComish turned in the second most dominating performance of the morning with a 3-0 (11-1, 11-1, 11-1) win at the No. 6 position over Milind Joshi.

Senior captain Anirudh Nambiar (Pune, India) and junior captain McLeod Abbott (Bronxville, N.Y.) emerged victorious at the No. 2 and 3 positions respectively. Nambiar beat Mathieu Rizk 3-0 (11-2, 11-4, 11-8) and Abbott won 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-4) over Alex Riccio.

In the afternoon, sophomore Mahmoud Yousry (Cairo, Egypt) returned to the court after getting the morning off, beating Haverford's Tate Miller 3-0 (11-7, 11-5, 12-10) at the No. 1 position to help Bates win 7-2.

Bonnell and Nambiar swept their opponents at the No. 2 and 3 positions respectively. Bonnell won 11-6, 11-6, 11-4 over Davis Chase and Nambiar took down Fitz Dougherty 11-5, 11-7, 11-6.

Rothenberg, McComish and Dewey all won by scores of 3-0 again, with Dewey moving up to the No. 7 position to earn his victory.

Sophomore David Quintero (Santa Barbara, Calif.) got a spot in the lineup against the Fords (4-1) and won 3-0 (11-7, 11-3, 11-7) over Yash Singh at the No. 8 position.

With the wins, the Bobcats are off to their best start since 2010-2011 when they also started the season 4-0.
