The National Theatre encores “The Audience” at the Grand

ELLSWORTH - The Grand announces the next in a series of high-definition encore performances from The National Theatre of London – two special summer encore screenings of the West End production of The Audience, with Helen Mirren reprising her Academy Award-winning and Tony-winning role as Queen Elizabeth II at 1 pm and 6 pm on Thursday, July 21. In addition to her acclaimed performance, Mirren will be participating with cast and crew in a special brand-new Q&A made especially for this encore screening. General admission tickets for each screening are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, $15 for Grand members, $13 for students, and $10 for youth 12 and under, and are available at The Grand Box Office, by phone (207) 667-9500, or online at www.grandonline.org.

Acclaimed playwright and screenwriter Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Damned United) and the Academy Award-winning actress Mirren reunited for this play following their collaboration on the award-winning movie sensation The Queen. For sixty years Elizabeth II has met each of her twelve Prime Ministers in a weekly audience at Buckingham Palace – a meeting like no other in British public life – it is private. Both parties have an unspoken agreement never to repeat what is said. Not even to their spouses. The Audience breaks this contract of silence – and imagines a series of pivotal meetings between the Downing Street incumbents and their Queen. From Churchill to Cameron, each Prime Minister has used these private conversations as a sounding board and a confessional – sometimes intimate, sometimes explosive. Politicians come and go through the revolving door of electoral politics, while Elizabeth remains constant, waiting to welcome her next Prime Minister.

So bring a friend and share the experience at The Grand as The National Theatre of London presents two special Summer high-definition encore screenings of the West End production of The Audience, with Helen Mirren reprising her Academy Award-winning (and now Tony-winning as well) role as Queen Elizabeth II (and featuring a special brand-new Q&A with cast and crew) at 1 pm and 6 pm on Thursday, July 21.

The Grand is proud to be presenting NT Live, a series of high definition simulcasts and encore performances from The National Theatre of London, which includes an encore of the Tony-winning A View From The Bridge starring Olivier award-winner Mark Strong (The Imitation Game; Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) in the acclaimed new production of one of Arthur Miller's greatest plays, directed by the Tony award-winning Danish director Ivo van Hove (Lazarus, Angels In America) Thursday, September 15th at 2 pm, as part of The Grand's commitment to presenting theater in all its forms.
