Museum to welcome back the Texas Flying Legends, Wings and Wheels Spectacular

WWII Warbirds, aerobatic performances to headline Wings and Wheels Spectacular
Owls Head, Maine - The Texas Flying Legends, aerobatic legend Julie Clark, assorted WWII warbirds and aerobatic performances will headline the Owls Head Transportation Museum’s Wings and Wheels Spectacular Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7.  Affectionately known as “The Rally,” the Wings and Wheels Spectacular is the museum’s longest running and most impressive special event of the season.

Show hours are 9:00 am until 3:00 pm on both Saturday and Sunday; exhibitor gates open at 8:00 am. The Owls Head Transportation Museum will observe standard closing time, remaining open until 5:00 pm both days of the show. Owners of all pre-1996 vehicles and organized auto clubs are invited to exhibit at the Wings and Wheels Spectacular and all other Museum (non-auction) events at no charge.  Clubs are encouraged to call ahead to arrange parking. Exhibitors and one guest are admitted free.

“We’re thrilled to welcome back the Texas Flying Legends, and to have world-renowned aerobatic
pilot Julie Clark join us for the first time in many years. Additionally our friends from the Tri-State Warbird Museum in Ohio will be returning with their P-51 Mustang Cincinatti Miss, and Charlie Lynch will join us flying his TBM Avenger, She’s The Boss. One of our favorite high-energy surface level aerobatic performers, Dan Marcotte, will also be returning. We’re looking forward to an outstanding show,” said OHTM Public Relations Director Jenna Lookner.

The aerobatic airshow and WWII Warbird demonstrations will begin at approximately 12:30 pm both Saturday and Sunday, and pre-1940 aeroplanes from the Museum’s flying collection will be demonstrated in the morning prior to the performances by guest aircraft. All flying is weather permitting. Following the conclusion of the aerobatic and WWII Warbird performances an open flightline will commence allowing visitors to see the aircraft up close, visit with the pilots, and take advantage of photo opportunities.

“Open flightline is one of the most unique components of the Wings and Wheels Spectacular, our visitors are so excited to have an opportunity to really interact with these historic aircraft and the men and women who fly them, it’s a special experience,” Lookner said.

In addition to the large display of assorted classic, vintage and antique vehicles on Runway 17, an array of family activities offered throughout the weekend will include demonstrations of ground vehicles from the Museum’s collection, free Model T rides, and the museum’s popular kid’s pedal car corral. On Sunday, August 7 the Darling’s Ice Cream Truck for a Cause will be on site from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Darling’s will be serving up tasty frozen treats on a donation basis, all donations collected will directly benefit the Museum. Concessions catered by French and Brawn Catering and Marketplace will also be available for purchase throughout the weekend.

The Owls Head Wings & Wheels Spectacular will commence rain or shine. Vehicles will be exhibited on the Museum’s Runway 17, and the Museum’s galleries will be open so visitors can tour the collection and exhibits, including many intriguing vintage vehicles and collectibles consigned for the New England Auto Auction™ on August 19 and 20.

Weather permitting, rides in the museum’s 1941 Stearman biplane and 2011 Waco YMF-5 biplane, will be available for purchase throughout the event weekend. Stearman rides are $250 and can accommodate a single passenger. Waco rides are $350 and can accommodate two passengers (some weight restrictions apply). A biplane ride provides an unprecedented view of the coastline from the open cockpit of the aircraft.

Admission to the Wings & Wheels Spectacular is $25 for adults. Admission is always free to children under 18, as well as retired and active duty Military with a uniformed services ID.
