The second seeded Spartans of Castleton defeated third seeded Husson, 8-1 in Saturday's NEAC East Division semifinals.
The Spartans took an important 2-1 lead after doubles by winning at No. 1 and No. 3. Sara Novenstern and Jackie Lisak won the top flight 8-2 over Katie Pratt and Meridith Blessard. Castleton's (11-3) No. 3 duo of Meg Susslin and Diane Benedicto (St. Albans, Vt.) also earned an 8-2 victory over Elizabeth Adleyand Kelsey Pelletier. Husson (7-3) was able to stay close in the match with an 8-3 victory by the No. 2 team of Charlotte Bednarz and Sarah Smith over Ciara Bannister and Kirsten Kruk.
Castleton came away with straight set victories at each of the six singles matches. Lisak did not drop a came in her 6-0, 6-0 victory at the third flight. Novernstern (No. 1), Susslin (No. 2), Bannister (No. 4), Benedicto (No. 5) and Kruk (No. 6) each earned wins.
The Spartans lost to Colby-Sawyer in the NEAC-East Championship, 6-0.
