PAXTON, Mass. - Husson scored on its first offensive play Saturday and never looked back, using a 26-0 first quarter to propel the Eagles to a 46-7 win against Anna Maria (Mass.) in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) action on Saturday at AMCAT Field.
Husson (3-1, 2-0 ECFC) wins its ninth-straight league game, while Anna Maria (0-5, 0-2 ECFC) loses its third-consecutive to the Eagles and falls to 2-6 in the series.
John Smith totaled 26 carries for 258 rushing yards, third most in a game in school history, and three touchdowns on the day. His long of 64 yards came on Husson's first play from scrimmage.
Smith became the third player in program history to surpass the 2,000-yard rushing plateau and now has 2,029 in just two seasons. He needs 291 rushing yards to pass Justin Lindie for second all-time in program history. Smith also became the third player in Husson history to rush for 20 or more touchdowns and now has 21.
Smith scored the second and third touchdowns for Husson in the first quarter, including a 24-yard run
at the 7:47 mark and a five-yard run at the 7:02 mark to put the Eagles up 20-0.
Despite having the ball for just 4:55 in the first quarter, the Eagles totaled four touchdowns and 169 yards of offense in the frame.
The final touchdown of the first quarter was scored by Joe Seccareccia on a two-yard run. Two first quarter missed extra-points set the score at 26-0.
Anna Maria gave the ball away on three turnovers in the first quarter. A fumble at 10:16 set Husson up for their second touchdown, while two interceptions at 7:33 and 2:26 resulted in Husson touchdowns on the Eagles' ensuing drives.
The Eagles added single touchdowns in each of the remaining quarters and held a 46-0 lead with 12:38 left to play in in the fourth quarter. All three touchdowns were scored in the air.
Seccareccia found Robenson Saintard for a 32-yard completion in the second quarter to give the Eagles a 33-0 halftime lead. Seccareccia hit Kadeem Edge for a 50-yard completion in the third quarter and found Deon Wiggins for a six-yard score in the fourth quarter.
Anna Maria's lone score came with 5:22 left in the game after the AMCATS blocked Husson's punt attempt in the end zone, and Joseph D'Onofrio fell on the ball for the touchdown.
The AMCATS had an opportunity for a first-half field goal, but the 27-yard attempt as time expired in the second quarter was blocked by the Husson defense.
Husson totaled 491 yards of offense in the victory, 270 of which came on the ground. The Eagles had 17 first downs.
Seccareccia completed 10 of 20 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Saintard was his top receiver, making four catches for 57 yards and a touchdown. Edge added 60 yards on two catches, while Joe Farrellcaught a 44-yard ball.
Saintard and Wiggins each totaled over 100 all-purpose yards. Saintard finished with 57 receiving yards and 51 kick return yards, while Wiggins had 18 receiving yards and 85 punt return yards.
Anna Maria was held to 131 offensive yards and 10 first downs on the day.
Christopher Bettano rushed for 32 yards on 14 carries in the loss.
Malik Faison completed 5 of 21 passes for 53 yards in defeat.
Bryant Wade paced the Husson defense with eight tackles and 0.5 sacks. Kenny Sweet added six tackles, while Luke Washburn and Tarik Smith each finished with 1.5 sacks. Wade, Jordan Hersom, Tobey Harrington,Matt Pellerin and Luke Washburn each forced a fumble. Wade, Sweet, Hersom and Elvin Suazo each recovered a fumble. Hersom and Alonzo Connor each had an interception. Ian Palmer had 0.5 sacks.
As a unit, the Eagles held the AMCATS scoreless for nearly 55 minutes of action and limited the hosts to 2.0 yards per offensive play. Husson forced six turnovers as five fumbles, recovering four of them.
The AMCATS had six fumbles in the game.
The AMCAT defense saw a game-high 11 tackles from Mike Sinto. Dylan Copeland tallied nine tackles, a forced fumble and an interception.
Husson hosts Becker (Mass.) on Saturday, Oct. 17, for a 12 p.m. ET kickoff.
