Mariners Shutout Eagles

CASTINE, Maine – Emily Wyman (Brockton, Mass.) scored a pair of goals to lead Maine Maritime Academy women's soccer to a 4-0 shutout over Husson University on Saturday afternoon on Ritchie Field.

Wyman broke the scoreless battle in the 21st minute when she broke free from her defender and sent a skipping ball into net past the Eagle keeper Kayla Gordon.

Tori Cooper (Saco, Maine) used fancy footwork to dribble by her defender in the 32nd minute, drawing Gordon out of net. Cooper then placed a ball on goal that skipped in, to double the Mariner lead, 2-0.

Wyman added her second goal of the game in the 60th minute when she nudged her defender out of the way, and kicked the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

In the 66th minute, Wyman placed a ball ahead to Makayla Lewis (Purcellville, Va.) who slanted a shot past Gordon to give the Mariners a 4-0 advantage.

Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, Maine) stopped all four shots she faced in her fourth shutout of the season while Gordon recorded five saves.
