FORTIER SETS FIELD HOCKEY CAREER SCORING RECORD IN WIN

BANGOR, Maine — Call it a double milestone night for Colby College senior field hockey player Megan Fortier (Falmouth, Maine).

Fortier’s first goal of the night put her over 100 career points and her second made her Colby’s all-time scoring leader in the Mules’ 5-1 non-conference win at Husson University on Wednesday.
Colby improved to 6-4 overall heading into Saturday’s noon start at Wesleyan University. Husson dropped to 4-5 overall.
Fortier is up to 42 goals and 19 assists for 103 career points. Wendy Bonner ’05, a three-time All-American, had 44 goals and 14 assists for 102 career points. Fortier will now aim for Bonner’s career goal scoring record.
Fortier scored her first goal off a penalty corner, with an assist from co-captain Hannah Hearn at
12:07.
Rebecca Moore made it 2-0 Colby with an unassisted goal at 18:47 and teammate Eleanor Fitzgerald followed with her first collegiate goal about three minutes later for a 3-0 margin.
The Eagles had edges in shots (19-15) and penalty corners (16-8) in the game. Husson broke the shutout when Lauren Russell scored with 4:13 to halftime.
Colby made it 4-1 at intermission when McKayla Blanch scored with just 29 seconds to play.
Fortier closed out the scoring with her second goal from Hearn and Anna Rudinski at 55:39.
Sarah Evans stopped five shots in the first half for Colby and Riley Whitmyer played the second half and also made five stops.
