BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England men's golfer Paul
Butkevich and women's cross country runner Tiana Thomas have been
selected UNE Athletes of the Month for September.
Butkevich, a
senior from Pomfret, Conn., had a stroke average of 74.3 over six
September rounds. He shot 71 twice, including the season-opening
University of Maine Farmington Invitational held at Waterville Country
Club when he took home medalist honors. Butkevich was a model of
consistency, posting a score no higher than 76 in any event. He was
twice named Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week.
A
junior from Waterville, Maine, Thomas recorded two wins and a
second-place finish in the Nor'easters' three September meets. She was
first at the Shacklette Invitational (hosted by Saint Anselm College),
second at the UNE Invitational, and first at the Pop Crowell
Invitational (hosted by Gordon College). The Nor'easters won all three
events. Thomas was twice chosen CCC Runner of the Week, and was named
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England
Runner of the Week on Sept. 10.
Other nominees for the month
of September included: Nicole Matarozzo (field hockey), Brielle Robinson
(women's soccer), and CJ Vallie (men's cross country).
