GREAT MAINE OUTDOOR WEEKEND: Snowshoe (or Ski) Long Cove Headwaters

Snowshoe (or Ski) Long Cove Headwaters with Coastal Mountains Land Trust

(Searsport)-Coastal Mountains Land Trust will be offering a winter exploration of the Long Cove Headwaters in Searsport on Friday, February 13 from 10:00 AM – NOON in conjunction with the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend, a statewide event that promotes outdoor activities for all, sponsored by the Maine Outdoor Coalition.

Come explore a range of forest types, and several frozen wetlands and look for signs of snowshoe hare, deer, moose, raccoon, and other wildlife. Nora Hayes, Outreach Coordinator for the Land Trust, along with Helen Burlingame and Skip Pendleton, Land Trust Volunteers, will lead the excursion via snowshoe or cross-country skis to explore the 450-acre preserve. The hike will explore two loop trails on the preserve.

Participants should come prepared for an easy to moderate excursion; extra layers and water are recommended. No equipment will be provided. Due to recent snowfall, there is no parking at the trailhead.Please carpool and meet at Tozier’s Grocery parking lot in downtown Searsport at 9:30. The group will meet at the trailhead on Savery Road in Searsport at 10:00. Directions: From Route 1, turn on to Mt Ephraim Road in downtown Searsport. Follow for 2.6 miles and turn right onto Savery Road. The trailhead is .6 miles down the road on the right.

Coastal Mountains Land Trust has worked since 1986 to permanently conserve land to benefit the natural and human communities of the western Penobscot Bay.
