Landscape architect Lee Schneller Sligh of Camden will give an illustrated talk on “Japanese Gardens in Maine,” 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Sligh has designed over 250 gardens in Maine and specializes in Japanese gardens.

The Camden Garden Club invites one and all to the Picker Room at the Camden Public Library at 2:00 pm to celebrate its 100th birthday. The club has done so much to promote beautification and civic betterment in Camden over the past century, and during the month of March the Picker Room will showcase contributions that the Camden Garden Club has made to the community.

The Camden Library Coffeehouse is pleased to host singer-songwriter Nat Hussey, 7:00 pm. Hussey, a Maine native “from inland,” he says, now lives, works, and plays music on Matinicus. “A Maine native, I tell my story plus lots of made-up stuff about Maine through folk, rock, and blues tunes. I write of haunted beaches, cheap thrills, and the human spirit. I began on electric guitar around the same time as I was learning how to chuck hay bales and fix fences in Bowdoinham.” Admission to the Coffeehouse concert is $6/$5 for seniors and students.

“Destination Wellness” speaker Nancy Lubin will present “Practice Safe Scents,” 12:00 noon at the Camden Public Library. Lubin is certified in clinical aromatherapy and will cover what essential oils are, how they are used in aromatherapy, how they differ from other plant products, how they are produced, and ways they can be used to advantage.

Peter Pfeiffer, author of “Hard Chance: Tree Farming in Troubled Times,” explains both the how and the why of becoming an independent tree farmer in northern Maine, including a history of the local back-to-the-land movement during the turbulent 1970s and the subsequent satisfactions of living in a backwoods community. Pfeiffer will give a reading at the Camden Public Library at 7:00 pm.
