United States Coast Guard Station Eastport Responds To Pier Failure

Eastport, Maine - The Coast Guard responded to a collapsed pier that caused one injury and property damage in Eastport, Maine, Thursday.

At about 2:20 a.m., the Washington County dispatch notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Eastport, Maine, that the end of the Eastport breakwall had fallen into the water.

The caretaker aboard the Ada C. Lore suffered a leg injury and the 77-foot schooner was damaged. The Eastport pilot boat is submerged, one unoccupied pickup truck is in the water, and a sheen was reported in the area.

Station Eastport crews are working with vessel captains to move vessels to a safe location.
Also assisting are the Eastport Port Authority and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.

The Eastport Breakwater has encountered major damage early this morning and we are asking all boat owners to please remove their boats as soon as possible. If you have any questions please call our office. Thank you.

The Eastport Port Authority would like to thank everyone for their concern regarding the structural failure at the facility early this morning. Our salute goes the the USCG and local first responders for a true community response. We have been in touch with both State and Federal Officials regarding how we proceed in the coming hours and days. We are so thankful for no serious injuries and our focus will be on keeping out fishing fleet in the water and this community moving forward.
