Augusta, Maine - If John Foster of Searsmont has his way, costly heating bills could become a thing of the past.After almost four years of tinkering and experimenting, Foster has finally developed what he believes is a simple, easy-to-use, energy-efficient heating unit that features no combustion, no heat element and produces no exhaust.
"This prototype is as clean as can be," said Foster. "My heating unit has the ability to heat a three-bedroom home around the clock for a month for about $80."
The idea for the heater came as a result of Foster's concern for fire and seeing so many Mainers fill up gas containers for use in their mobile home furnaces.
"I was very impressed with what I saw," said Governor LePage's Account Executive Jaimie Logan. "Right now I am researching possible financing options and have referred Mr. Foster to the Maine Technology Institute and Manufacturers Association of Maine," continued Logan.
Starting August 15, the unit will undergo rigorous efficiency testing at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. "Jaimie has worked diligently to put me in touch with the resources I need to get this product off the ground," said Foster. "My goal is to see this heating unit go to market as soon as possible and have the product manufactured here in Maine."
Logan is one of six Governor's Account Executives, each responsible for certain areas of the state. Each have several contacts across government departments making it easier to navigate what is sometimes overwhelming and helping businesses access the many available programs so business owners can focus on what they do best; helping move Maine's economy forward.
