Rohan Henry, Gail Donovan and Maria Padian talk about writing and illustrating children’s books in today’s literary world at the Portland Public Library’s Brown Bag Lecture Series
September 18th from Noon-1:00pm in the Rines Auditorium
Portland, Maine - How does a children's book reach the shelves of our library? In a panel discussion, picture book author/illustrator Rohan Henry, chapter book writer Gail Donovan, and young adult novelist Maria Padian exchange stories with their agent Edite Kroll about the creative process, the role of agents, the publication process, and being a children's book creator in today's literary world.  The panel of Maine authors will be moderated by children's book consultant, Kirsten Cappy of Curious City.  Book signing to follow.

About the authors
Gail Donovan (www.gaildonovan.com) lives with her family in Portland, Maine, where she works in the public library.

Rohan Henry is a Jamaican born author illustrator who lives in the cold state of Maine. He enjoys spending time with his wife, his two kids and his giant cat Honey Bee. Honey Bee, who weighs in at about 18 pounds, is often mistaken for a small adult dog. Honey Bee’s litter box is located in the basement of the Henry family home next to Rohan’s drawing table. Honey Bee enjoys taking catnaps on Rohan’s desk chair and Rohan is thankful for his personal seat warmer.

Maria Padian has worked as a news reporter, a congressional aide, a press secretary, a freelance writer and a radio essayist. Her work has been awarded by the Associated Press, the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi, the Georgia Broadcasters Assocation, the Maine Library Association and the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance.
