BREAKING NEWS: Belfast Shooting Suspect FOUND

Rockport, Maine - State, local and county police converged on Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday after a man suspected of shooting two people, one fatally, was located at the hospital, according to a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Todd Gilday, 44 of Belfast, went to the hospital sometime overnight, Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said. He is suspected of killing a woman and critically wounding a man at 162 Waldo Ave. in Belfast late Wednesday night. The wounded man was rushed to a hospital and is undergoing surgery, the release said.

Gilday was arrested at about 8 a.m. and charged with murder and is being taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast, McCausland said.

The car police said Gilday was driving — a gray 2007 Nissan Altima with a Maine lobster plate reading “FOREX” — was parked in the nearest parking space to the entrance to the Pen Bay emergency room. Officers from the Maine State Police, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Rockport Police Department, and Rockland Police Department were at the scene. A cruiser was parked in back of the Nissan Altima.

Belfast Police and the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the shooting at 11 p.m. Wednesday.
