Mosca Takes Home Second at LEC Championship, Named to All-Conference First Team

 

CASTLETON, VT – University of Southern Maine women’s cross country freshman Olivia Mosca (Brewer, ME) was the top finishing newcomer and an All-Little East Conference First Team choice after her second-place finish individually at the 2021 Little East Conference Championship on Saturday morning in Vermont.

Mosca crossed the finish line in an even 21 minutes with a 6:46 mile pace. The one-time LEC Rookie of the Week was only 15 seconds behind first-place runner Kim Bowles of Plymouth

State University and three seconds ahead of fellow freshman Sarah Ames of Keene State College. 

 

As a team, the Huskies came in fifth place tying with Rhode Island College with 155 points. They were one point ahead of seventh-place the University of Massachusetts – Boston. Plymouth State University won their first-ever LEC Championship narrowly besting reigning champion Eastern Connecticut State University by one marker. 

 

Sophomore Vanessa DiRisi (Scarborough, ME) was the next finisher for the Huskies as the second-year athlete placed 32nd at 23:46/7:39. Junior Rachael Raymond (East Waterboro, ME) completed the competition about a minute and a few seconds behind her teammate tallying a 24:03/7:45. Both athletes joined Mosca in the top-40. 

 

Junior Maddie Fornasier (South Burlington, VT) (24:26/7:52), sophomore Emma Noonan (Steep Falls, ME) (24:30/7:54), junior Cassandra Kane (Topsham, ME) (27:52/8:58) and junior Jillian Taylor (Hermon, ME) (29:42/9:34) rounded out the Huskies showings. 

 

USM will be back on the course at the NCAA Regional Championship on Saturday, November 13th.
