Women’s Ice Hockey Upended 2-1 in Home Opener

 

GORHAM, Maine – After a season-opening win last night on the road, the University of Southern Maine women’s ice hockey program returned to the friendly confines of the USM Ice Arena and suffered a setback during their home opener in Saturday matinee hockey action.

 

When and Where: Saturday, October 30, 2021 – University of Southern Maine – USM Ice Arena

 

Box Score: Gulls 2, Huskies 1

 

History: This was the sixth meeting between the two programs. Endicott leads the series 4-

1-1.

 

The Records: Southern Maine: 1-1-0; Endicott: 1-0-0

 

The Goaltenders: sophomore Haley McKim (Moncton, NB, Canada): 1-1-0, 33 saves; Michaela O’Brien: 1-0-0, 20 saves.

 

Three Stars of the Game: 

1st star: Makenzie Villiard: game-winning goal

2nd star: Quin Healy: one goal, one assist, two points

3rd star: Haley McKim: 33 saves

 

Inside the Box Score:

 

-Endicott drew first blood at the 17:33 mark in the first as Jess Burwell dished the puck to Healy for the marker. Husky junior Jordan Colbert (Manomet, MA) netted the equalizer on the powerplay in the second period. 10 minutes later, Villiard put home the game-winner off two passes.  

 

-There were nine penalties called in the bout. Endcott was 0-for-5 on the advantage while the Huskies were 1-for-4. 

 

-Endicott outshot the Huskies 35-to-21 in the battle.

 

Up Next: The Huskies will head out on the road for the first time this season, next Friday, November 5th as they open conference play at William Smith College with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m.
