Freshman averaged 7.5 points in two games
Orono, Maine -- University of Maine men's basketball freshman guard Byron Ireland has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday morning.
Ireland appeared in each of Maine's first two games, coming off the bench to average 7.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals.
The rookie guard opened his collegiate career by registering a team-high tying nine points at Virginia Tech. Ireland went 4-for-7 from the floor in 21 minutes while adding two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Ireland chipped in six points, three boards, two assists, and two steals in Maine's victory over UMaine Farmington.
Ireland and the Black Bears return to action on Monday evening when they travel to take on Colorado at 8 p.m. ET.
