USM Men’s Cross Country Stays in Eighth in Final Regional Ranking

GORHAM, Maine – After a one-week break the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their final edition of the 2021 East Region poll, and the Huskies stayed put in the eighth slot, which remains their highest ranking of the 2021 campaign.

The Huskies, fresh off their eighth overall and fifth straight Little East

Conference Championship remain in the eighth spot after being in the ninth and 10th slot throughout the fall campaign. For the first time in seven weeks, there was a shake-up in the top three as Colby College climbed from third to second while Bates College who’s been a staple in the top-three slid to fourth. Tufts University improved from fourth to third while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has never moved from first this year.

USM had an extremely successful fall campaign taking home first place three times including the recent 2021 LEC Men’s Cross Country Championship. Team co-captain and senior Masho Gebremikael (Portland, ME) joined former teammate Nick Harriman as a four-time conference champion and earned his second All-Conference First Team award finishing third overall with a 26:25 time and a 5:21 pace. Newcomer Jordan Duplessie (Caribou, ME) was the top freshman runner and an All-LEC First Team choice as he came in fourth at 26:54 with a 5:25 mile split. Duplessie earned the LEC Rookie of the Week award on Monday for his efforts. Joining his teammates with All-League honors was co-captain Cody Mathewson (Lebanon, CT), a LEC Second Team athlete at 12th place (27:43/5:35).
