Camden Public Library Events July 7 through July 21

Thursday, July 7

Free jazz concert with the Novel Jazz Septet, 7:00 pm in the Camden Amphitheatre, hosted by the Camden Public Library. Bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating. The concert series is sponsored in part by the Reny Charitable Foundation.


Friday, July 8

Free Walking Tour every Friday at 4:00 pm, hosted by the Camden Public Library and the Camden Area Business Group. The tours begin on Atlantic Avenue at the Children’s Garden of the Library and end at the Opera House. Please call the library at 236-3440 to sign up.


Sunday, July 10

 “Cyber Sunday” session on “iPad Basics with VoiceOver and Zoom” offered at the Camden Public Library, 2:00 pm, as part of the regular technology support series, all are welcome, call the library at 236-3440 to sign up.


Monday, July 11

Avena Botanicals will present a Brown Bag Lunch wellness talk, hosted by Destination Wellness Midcoast Maine (DWMM) at the Camden Public Library at 12:00 noon.

Mondaynite Jazz Orchestra (aka MoJO) will perform a free concert on Monday evening, July 11, 6:30-8:00 pm in the Camden Amphitheatre. Relax, sing out, and dance away. Bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating.

Free Monday Night Movie, “The Spiderwick Chronicles” (2008, 1 hr 36 min, PG), 8:30 pm in the Camden Amphitheatre, hosted by the Camden Public Library. Bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating.


Tuesday, July 12

Leer y charlar is Read and chat – entirely in Spanish! This Spanish language reading and conversation group meets at 1:00 pm at the Camden Public Library.

Tuesday Book Club, 1:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Please call Nina at 230-8516 for more information. The book for this session is “This Is Your Life, Harriet Chance!” by Jonathan Evision.

The Reading Group of the Camden Philosophical Society meets at 4:00 pm in the Picker Room of the Camden Public Library. The general topic will be Power, Control and Resistance.

Why the Ocean Matters, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Peter Neill, author of “The Once and Future Ocean: Notes Toward a New Hydraulic Society,” presents an illustrated lecture on how the watery depths hold solutions to earth’s most pressing challenges. Neill is director of the World Ocean Observatory.


Thursday, July 14

Four-day Outdoor Book Sale begins at 9:00 am at the Camden Public Library. The book sale is run by library volunteers, and all sales benefit the programs at the library.

Peyton Place Retrospective, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. The Library is participating in the Peyton Place revival by offering a selection of images and scenes from the movie as filmed in Camden in 1957. Library staff will offer some remarks about the tremendous popularity and impact that the book and movie had, followed by some modern-time film clips featuring the movie locations. Anyone familiar with the movie is invited to join us with stories about the filming.

Thursday, July 21

The Midcoast Brass Quintet returns to the Camden Amphitheatre for a free concert of classical, jazz, and popular music, hosted by the Camden Public Library, 7:00 pm. Bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating,
