Binghamton, NY - The Portland Sea Dogs (30-53) a strong start from Justin Haley and defeated the Binghamton Mets (41-40), 6-1 on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium. Portland can snap a 10-series losing streak with a win on Monday night.
Haley (3-9) set the tone with six scoreless frames on four hits, one walk and six strikeouts to earn the win. The righty has all three wins on the road, and held the B-Mets 0-for-7 with runners-in-scoring position.
The Sea Dogs took advantage of two Binghamton errors, receiving three unearned runs. In the first, RF Eudy Pina dropped a fly ball in right, putting runners at first and second. Jantzen Witte and Sam Travis delivered sac-fly's.
B-Mets righty John Gant (2-4) took the loss, allowing three unearned runs on six hits over 6 IP.
Portland made it 3-0 in the fourth inning off Gant. Witte led off with a double and scored on a two-out triple by Manuel Margot. In the fifth, Carlos Asuaje nailed an RBI single. The Sea Dogs added two runs in the ninth off Akeel Morris. Margot scored on a balk and Jake Romanski delivered a two-out, run-scoring single.
The Sea Dogs received two scoreless innings from Williams Jerez and Madison Younginer worked the ninth, giving up an unearned run over one frame.
The Sea Dogs and B-Mets wrap-up their three-game series tonight at NYSEG Stadium, first pitch is 6:35 PM. RHP Luis Diaz (0-7, 6.37) makes the start for Portland against B-Mets RHP Robert Gsellman (2-4, 4.37). Pre-Game coverage on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:15 PM.
