The Seafaring History of Blue Hill

Blue Hill, Maine -  Former submarine sailor, marine historian and retired U.S. Navy Captain Robert Slaven, a Blue Hill native, will give an illustrated talk on the Seafaring History of Blue Hill at the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday, July 30th, at 7:00 PM.  The talk is part of a series presented this summer highlighting the history of the Blue Hill Library to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Library’s building on Parker Point Road.

What is the Blue Hill connection to one of the most famous ships in 19th century literature?  What were “stone schooners” and how did they play a role in Blue Hill’s maritime history?   Why did Blue Hill, so closely connected to the sea, not develop a fishing fleet?   Captain Slaven will address these and other interesting questions.

This event is sponsored by the Library. There is no charge, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call the Library at 374-5515.
