The Grand Presents Monty Python’s Spamalot As Live, Local Theater Returns!

Ellsworth, Maine - After many years of hosting others on its stage but not producing its own shows, The Grand is excited to continue its fine tradition of live community theater with a new production of the Broadway hit Monty Python's Spamalot running October 16th through November 2nd, 2014. As Grand Executive Director Gail Thompson learned her very first days at work, this is something that Ellsworth has been waiting for. “Everyone I spoke with had the same question for me – when is community theater returning to The Grand?” said Ms. Thompson. “I am delighted to announce that it will happen this year.” Strong local support and the backing of The Grand’s Board of Directors have made Monty Python's Spamalot a reality for The Grand.

With artistic direction from long-time Grand collaborator Ken Stack and with direction by Michael Weinstein (director of Bangor Community Theater's successful musical White Christmas), this production of the irreverent British comedy troupe's musical theater take on the Holy Grail legend will bring local performers to the Grand stage as King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, and Sir Not Appearing in This Production, for the first Grand live theatrical production in years. Spamalot contains such crazy, yet tuneful, songs as “The Song That Goes Like This”, “Knights of the Round Table” and, of course, “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”.

Auditions will take place in late summer and rehearsals will begin as soon as the roles are cast. Current Grand members at the $75 level will have the opportunity to purchase tickets before they are available to the general public. Sponsorship and advertising opportunities will be available for businesses and organizations. The Grand will make further announcements as plans move forward.
