Presentation to highlight logistics of early travel in Maine

Owls Head, Maine - The Owls Head Transportation Museum will host the fourth talk in our 2014 Winter Education Series at 1 pm Saturday, February 22. The talk is titled “You Can’t Get There From Here” and features historian George Barrett. Barrett . Barrett will explore the evolution of roads, ferries and bridges in Maine beginning the early 1900s.

Challenges such river crossings before bridges and car travel on less than adequate road surfaces are among the many conundrums of early travel in Maine that Barrett will explore during his presentation. Barrett’s exploration of these topics will be illustrated with photographs and early road maps.

Next up in the 2014 Winter Education Series is an exciting presentation in honor of International Women’s Day. On Saturday, March 8 Jessa Piaia. An acclaimed historical character re-enactor, will present a one-person interpretation of pioneer aviatrix Amelia Earhart, one of the world’s most famous aviators and greatest mysteries.

All presentations in the Winter Education Series are free to the public. Standard admission for visitors wishing to explore the Museum is $12 ($10 for seniors over 65) and free to children and youth under age 18. Active duty and retired military personnel are admitted free of charge.
