In this show, Director and Founder Kea Tesseyman brings you stories of joy and triumph, trial and tribulation, struggle and success. With a wide variety of cast members (dancers) ranging in ages, experience and style, each member tells a different story through documentary and choreography of their experiences in the real world, mixed with their desires, hopes and dreams in the dance world; combing the two for breathtaking breakthroughs and transformations you don’t want to miss. Music ranges from folk to hip hop, classical to rock - they literally do it all.
In the second act, Tesseyman takes you from dance to dance demonstrating a typical scene where a kid is bullied – however – she shows you the not-so-typical version of how it is handled and dealt with it, what happens to the bully and all of the people affected by the actions of both the initial antagonist – and the person receiving the harassment. Kea shows you multiple characters that are affected along the way – and how to find the way back to righting the wrongs that have happened, including helping the bully realize his truths and overcome his own demons.
You can expect some fantastic performances from local students and adults plus guest performances by professionals Chuck Ngyuen, a martial arts expert who qualifies by teaching anti-bullying tactics at schools state wide, and interviews with Kay Stephens, cyberbullying expert and national author of "Cyberslammed: Understand, prevent, combat, and transform the six most common cyberbullying tactics."
“I think each bully has just been bullied at some point before in their own lives but never had the proper outlet to express their pain or knew that they could ask for help. In my show you get a sense that every issue has one uniting solution: asking for help and receiving love.”
With this theory, based off of years of experience of working with children and adults nationwide, Kea brings to the table through riviting original documentary work, a large scale of different stories which all come full circle to a healing solution. Tesseyman adds interesting views on ways that tribes around the world handle such issues and how they bring their loved ones back from dark places by circles of love, song and dance.
“The big picture isn’t one act of injustice in the halls of high school or at work or anywhere to anyone – it is the bigger picture that society fails to note that begins where old, traditional practices of honor, brotherhood and loyalty was washed away by negative and inappropriate imaging in magazines and TV, technology separating our nature’s way of communicating, and the climb for money and financial status leaving people judging their worth as humans by the money they have or don’t have, but by what they are made of as human beings. This show is joy and sorrow – it’s truth and love and a fight for freedom. This isn’t just some dance show – it’s a way to dance through life and live your moment until you bring a solution to your own doorstep. This is Power Performance.”
