Camden/Rockport, Maine - David Jackson will lead a presentation discussing the newly honored Camden Amphitheatre National Historic Landmark at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, August 27 at 12:00 noon.Jackson will speak about the history of the amphitheatre, highlighting the efforts, innovations, and design aesthetic of famed landscape architect Fletcher Steele. The National Park Service has recently named the Camden Amphitheatre a National Historic Landmark for being an outstanding example for its use of modernism in a neoclassical, vegetative setting. The talk will also cover the ‘pitch’ that Jackson and Nikki Maounis’ gave to National Historic Landmarks Program to recognize and preserve the Amphitheatre space on a national level.
David Jackson is Parks Director at the Camden Public Library where he supervises the Harbor Park and Amphitheatre.
This lecture is part of Merryspring’s Summer Talk Series, co-sponsored by Camden National Bank and Jaret & Cohn Real Estate. Admission is free for Merryspring members, with a nominal fee of $5 for non-members.
