Movie “The Mummy” August 12
The next movie in the Monday Night Movies in the Park series of the Camden Public Library will be “The Mummy” (1999, PG-13, 124 minutes). In this terrifically entertaining remake of the 1932 horror film, explorers stumble upon an ancient tomb, and the hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror. This version is more in the vein of Indiana Jones rather than the original Mummy. It is high on adventure and comedy, and the special effects are all first-rate. The movie begins at 8:00 pm; bring blankets or chairs for seating. The movie series is supported by the Allen Insurance and Financial. In cas of rain the movie will postponed until next season.
The Mummy stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and John Hannah, and was directed by Stephen Sommers; Industrial Light & Magic produced the ground-breaking visual effects. The movie is a rousing and suspenseful epic of treasure-seeking explorers on an expedition in the Sahara Desert in 1925.
The final movie in the series will be on August 19 at 7:45 pm, the re-scheduled “Gold Diggers of 1933,” a B&W ’30s classic musical, starring Dick Powell, Ginger Rogers, Joan Blondell, Ruby Murray, and other stars of the early 1930s.
