Camden, ME November 26th, 2012 -- The Camden Rotary Club has selected
Meals on Wheels to receive a major gift this year. Club President Jim
Bowditch recently presented a $4,000 donation to Lee Karker, executive
director of MCH Inc, which runs the Meals on Wheels program in Knox County.
The gift is designed to replace the organization¹s delivery containers
which have been well used over the past twenty years with new meal
transporters, including heated ones for the longer delivery routes. Meals on
Wheels currently delivers approximately 120 meals daily to residents from
Port Clyde to Appleton, Camden to Thomaston and beyond.
³We are delighted with this gift,² said Lois Stackpole Alley, who oversees
the meal preparation at MCH¹s Summer Street facility in Rockland. ³It will
make a great difference to keeping the food warm. All our food is delivered
by a fine team of volunteers, who make sure the food arrives safe and
sound.²
MCH is a Rockland-based not-for-profit agency that helps older adults and
people with disabilities remain independent and active by providing
supportive housing, transportation and affordable meals -- a safety net of
services for many of our most vulnerable neighbors.
This year, Camden Rotary will donate more than $60,000 to local causes, from
non-profits to scholarships for high school students going on to college.
Applications are accepted at www.camdenrotary.org
<http://www.camdenrotary.org> at any time, and awards are decided each
spring.
The Camden Rotary meets at the First Congregational Church on Elm St. in
Camden on Tuesdays at 12 noon.
