New Fitness and Recreation Fields to Benefit Brewer Community

Playing fields highlight new recreation area
Brewer, Maine - EMHS and the City of Brewer are pleased to announce a joint project to improve the health of the citizens of Brewer.  A community fitness park is planned for the site formerly occupied by Washington Street School.  EMHS will sponsor renovations to include playing fields, walking trails, seating, fencing, and other amenities.

“The EMHS mission establishes our purpose to advance community well-being, and this project is an excellent example of investing in resources to promote healthy lifestyles,” stated M. Michelle Hood, FACHE, president and CEO of EMHS. “Annually we assess our ability to invest in community benefit projects across our service area, from Waterville to Presque Isle. This joint project with the City of Brewer allows EMHS to make a significant investment that will promote healthy lifestyles in a safe and accessible location.”

“We are pleased with this outcome,” stated Steve Bost, Brewer City Manager. “The participation of EMHS
on this project will benefit the health and fitness of our community for decades to come. The City Council has enthusiastically endorsed this mutually beneficial project. We look forward to providing Brewer residents with an additional place to enjoy outdoor sports.”

The EMHS pledge is for a total of $175,000 spread over two years. An existing city-administered Limited Liability Company (LLC) will oversee the redevelopment of the site.
