ROCKLAND, ME - Saturday December 10, 2011 was a busy day for us as we had several events to cover. Our pictorial/report starts with Gary's Icy Swim.

Saturday morning at 9am Gary "Greekman" Sredzienski of Kittery, Maine took on a 3.3 mile swim starting at the Owls Head Lighthouse beach to the Breakwater Lighthouse than the shore by Middle Pier. Gary Sredzienski is passionate about preserving Lighthouses like Owls Head and the Breakwater. This swim was to raise money for the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse and Owls Head Lighthouse for restoration along as to preserve them for future generations. At the Rockland Yacht Club were the swim/race headquarters with refreshments, live feed from Gary's swim and a book signing by Kevin Clark Mills, award winning author and journalist. Kevin had Sons & Daughters, Breakwater and Sidelined on hand to sign for people. There was a few people at headquarters to watch a live feed, when available, refreshments provided by Tim Hortons and Dunkin Donuts. We can't forget that the Lighthouse had products on hand at headquarters in case someone wanted to get something related to the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse and Owls Head Lighthouse.

With being three hours and 41 minutes Gary was approaching the shore to finish his swim to benefit the Lighthouse. Gary looked good after swimming all that way for a very good cause. You can read about the Lighthouses, when they're open and how to donate, if you can, by going to their site at www.rocklandlighthouse.com and www.lighthousefoundation.org. Gary really has a passion for preserving historic Lighthouses, which plays an important role in keeping mariners safe. Please enjoy a flashback to yesterdays icy swim and Kevins book signing through photographs. Before I do, you can read more about Kevin and his books by clicking here.
