Friday, April 26th- Happy Birthday Party for Rockland Public Library
Rockland, Maine - Happy Birthday to the Rockland Public Library! Rockland Library was started in 1891 as “The Rockland Public Library Association”. It was taken over by the City of Rockland in 1892 and was housed in various buildings, including the Spofford Block above the current Grasshopper Shop. Thanks in part to a Carnegie grant and generous local donors, your Library as it stands today, opened its doors on April 26, 1904, and is now 115 years young. Come to the Library to celebrate, look at scrapbooks, share stories, eat cake, and enjoy a mini historic tour led by librarians Patty King and Jessie Blanchard, who will be in period costume. The scrapbooks will be out all day; the tour will begin at 2:30 and we’ll eat cake after the tour ends. We’ll be asking you for your Library stories all week -on Facebook and in person, and on the day of the event.
