Monks Fly Past Falcons, 22-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Saint Joseph’s College (12-3, 6-1 GNAC) soared past Albertus Magnus College (2-10, 1-6 GNAC), 22-3, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s lacrosse contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks scored the game’s first nine goals and held a 15-1 advantage heading into intermission with the help of four tallies from sophomore Shane Puleo (Nashua, N.H.).

The SJC scoring barrage continued after the break, as freshman Troy Bottari (Nashua, N.H.) hit pay-dirt three times over the closing 30 minutes to propel the visitors to a 22-3 triumph.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC freshman Michael Janocha (Southampton, Mass.) made two saves in the first half and was awarded the victory while junior Zachary Remillard (Manchester, N.H.) turned away five shots in the final 30 minutes.

Albertus Magnus senior John Brunetti (West Haven, Conn.) made 14 saves over 40:30 minutes and Dane Walsh (Bethany, Conn.) added nine stops in 19:30 minutes of relief duty.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph’s held the lead in shots (65-22, shots on goal (45-10), face-off wins (20-9), turnovers (10-20), and ground balls (36-18). The Monks set a new program single-game record with 45 shots on goal in the victory.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH’S:

·         Puleo tallied four goals and four assists with a pair of ground balls

·         Bottari scored four goals with two assists

·         Sophomore Brendan Martin (Nashua, N.H.) added two goals and three assists with two ground balls

·         Freshman Zac LaRoche (Penacook, N.H.) netted three goals on five shots

·         Seniors Daniel Cunningham (West Islip, N.Y.) and Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass.) recorded a goal and two assists apiece

LEADERS – ALBERTUS MAGNUS:

·         Senior James May (Branford, Conn.) potted a pair of goals on eight shots

·         Freshman Andrew Luzzi (East Hampton, Conn.) added three ground balls and was 9-for-27 on face-off attempts

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the win Saint Joseph’s improves to 6-0 in the history of the series with Albertus Magnus College.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph’s closes out the regular season Tuesday with a home contest versus GNAC-rival Norwich University. Opening face-off is set for 6:00 PM.
