Doran Hat Trick Paces Eastern Connecticut Over Southern Maine 4-0

GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore Xavier Doran (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) scored three goals en route to a hat trick to lead the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors to a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

With the win, the Warriors remain undefeated in the Little East at 4-0-1 and improve their overall record to 12-2-1 to sit atop the conference standings. Southern Maine drops its 10th straight loss to fall to 1-10-1 and 0-5 in the Little East.

Doran put the Warriors ahead early converting a penalty kick just 3:07 into the contest for the first of his two first-half goals.  Junior Alejandro Tobon (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) doubled the Warriors advantage in the 23rd minute scoring his first goal of the season. Tobon headed in a lofted cross from freshman Justin Jensen (Wethersfield, Conn.) for the 2-0 Warriors advantage.  Doran made it a 3-0 lead just two minutes later redirecting in a cross from sophomore JD Stearns (Bolton, Conn.) in the 25th minute. The score remained the same through the half.

Doran completed the hat trick just over 20 minutes into the second half notching his team-leading ninth goal of the season on an assist from Jensen.   Jensen carried the ball down the near side of the field and then sent a well-time ball across the mouth of the goal to an on-running Doran for the score in the 68th minute.

Eastern Connecticut freshman goalkeeper Ryan Murphy (Cromwell, Conn.) earned the win making two saves in 77:25 of action.  Freshman Brendan West (Plainville, Conn.) played the final 12:35 making a pair of saves to keep the score sheet clean.
