GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore Xavier Doran (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) scored
three goals en route to a hat trick to lead the Eastern Connecticut
State University Warriors to a 4-0 win over the University of Southern
Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's soccer game Saturday
afternoon at Hannaford Field.
With the win, the Warriors remain undefeated in the Little
East at 4-0-1 and improve their overall record to 12-2-1 to sit atop the
conference standings. Southern Maine drops its 10th straight loss to
fall to 1-10-1 and 0-5 in the Little East.
Doran put the Warriors ahead early converting a penalty kick
just 3:07 into the contest for the first of his two first-half goals.
Junior Alejandro Tobon (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) doubled
the Warriors advantage in the 23rd minute scoring his first goal of the
season. Tobon headed in a lofted cross from freshman Justin Jensen
(Wethersfield, Conn.) for the 2-0 Warriors advantage. Doran made it a
3-0 lead just two minutes later redirecting in a cross from sophomore JD
Stearns (Bolton, Conn.) in the 25th minute. The score remained the same
through the half.
Doran completed the hat trick just over 20 minutes into the
second half notching his team-leading ninth goal of the season on an
assist from Jensen. Jensen carried the ball down the near side of the
field and then sent a well-time ball across the mouth of the goal to an
on-running Doran for the score in the 68th minute.
Eastern Connecticut freshman goalkeeper Ryan Murphy
(Cromwell, Conn.) earned the win making two saves in 77:25 of action.
Freshman Brendan West (Plainville, Conn.) played the final 12:35 making a
pair of saves to keep the score sheet clean. Husky freshman goalkeeper Simon Hulbert (Bar Harbor, Maine/Mount Desert Island).
