Znamierwoski Nets A Pair as Polar Bears Hold Off Hamilton

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin field hockey team scored two goals in each half to defeat visiting Hamilton on Saturday afternoon by a 4-1 margin.

The second ranked Polar Bears (11-0, 7-0 NESCAC) remain perfect on the season after receiving offensive production from three individuals in Saturday's contest. The Continentals (7-5, 3-5 NESCAC) spoiled Bowdoin's shutout with just over a minute remaining in the game.

How It Happened
  • Rachel Kennedy put Bowdoin on the board 13:36 into the game as she tipped a drive from Emily McColgan off a penalty corner.
  • Liz Znamierowski scored her first of two goals with just over 11 minutest to play as she collected a loose ball in the circle outside the left post and spun around to sweep a shot to the opposite corner.
  • Hamilton's offense pressured Bowdoin early in the second, with a promising scoring opportunity coming off a Polar Bear turnover deep in their own defensive end.  Merisa Dion intercepted a free hit coming outside the circle and carried the ball back in to challenge Clara Belitz. As Dion went to shoot, Belitz dove and absorbed the shot in the pads.
  • Hamilton followed with a penalty corner and again sent a shot on goal that was deflected away.
  • Znamierowski responded with her team's third goal of the game 8:20 into the half after burying a feed from Emma Olney. Olney sent a long ball into the circle from a side-in just outside the 25, with Znamierowski pulling to her reverse stick and sweeping in her second of the game.
  • Kimmy Ganong rounded out Bowdoin's scoring three minutes later flipping in a rebound off the goalie's pads to go ahead 4-0.
  • The Continentals broke through Bowdoin's defense in the final minutes, scoring off a penalty corner with 1:09 remaining in the game. Margaret Revera blasted a shot from the top of the circle off a penalty corner insert from Merisa Dion. Revera' shot found the far right side of the net to put Hamilton on the board.
  • Hamilton goalie Julia Booth made seven stops in a complete game performance, while Belitz made five saves for Bowdoin.
  • The Polar Bears outshot the visitors by a 15-6 mark with a 7-3 edge in corners.
