Field Hockey: Husson picked to repeat as NAC Champion‏

WHITINGHAM, Vermont - The Husson field hockey team has been selected to repeat as the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) champion in 2015 in a vote of the league's head coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday. The Eagles received a total of 34 points, including five of the six first place votes.

The 2015 Eagle unit, guided by second-year coach and 2014 NAC Coach of the Year Medline Hoeppner, features a talented squad that will strive for a return trip to the championship game looking to capture its second-consecutive NAC Tournament title. Hoeppner expects a big season from senior forward Britt Mellor, who appeared in 15 games last season. Taylor Lovely and Libby Kain, both 2014 NAC All-Tournament Team members, return for their junior campaigns. Lovley, a 2014 All-NAC selection, led the Eagles in assists (6) and points (22), while Kain posted a team-high nine goals and was second on the squad with 20 points.

In 2014, Hoeppner's bunch went 5-0 in conference play and outscored opponents 26-0, the first time in NAC history a team did not surrender a regular season goal. After claiming their fourth conference tournament title and first since 2011, the Eagles went on to compete in the NCAA Division III National Championship

Maine-Farmington was voted second with 29 points, while Thomas (Maine) took third with 26 points and garnered the remaining first place vote. Rounding out the poll was Castleton (Vt.) in fourth (17 points), Colby-Sawyer (N.H.) in fifth (13 points), and New England (N.H.) in sixth (7 points).
