Luis Martinez's Three-Run Double Breaks 2-2 Tie
Portland, Maine - The Sea Dogs used a five-run third and a solid start from Luis Diaz to take the series finale over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7-3 in front of a sellout crowd on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field.Trailing 2-0 entering the third, Tim Roberson put Portland on the board with an RBI double to halve the Fisher Cats' lead. After Oscar Tejeda walked to load the bases, Dustin Lawley worked a two-out walk from Scott Barnes to force in the tying run. Luis Martinez then took an 0-2 pitch from Barnes and hit it off the wall in right-center field to score all three runners and break the tie to give Portland a 5-2 lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Sea Dogs sent all nine men to the plate in the third and scored five runs on three hits - four of the runs scored with two outs.
Luis Diaz (2-10) earned his second victory of the season and his first since July 6th at Binghamton. Diaz allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits in 5.1 innings, walking four and striking out six. Heri Quevedo (S, 1) picked up a save by working the final 3.2 innings and keeping the Fisher Cats scoreless.
The Sea Dogs padded their lead with two runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Tzu-Wei Lin and Sam Travis. Lin, Travis, Tim Roberson, Dustin Lawley, and Luis Martinez each had two hits apiece for Portland.
The Sea Dogs hit the road tomorrow to begin an eight-game road trip with a four game stop in New Britain against the Rock Cats, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Mike McCarthy (6-7, 4.32) goes for Portland against Harrison Musgrave (1-3, 2.87) for New Britain. Pregame coverage begins live on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Netowrk at 6:45 PM.
