Football: Husson prepares for final preseason scrimmage

Bangor, Maine - Husson prepared for its final preseason scrimmage scheduled Thursday with an afternoon practice in shell gear Wednesday at the Winkin Sports Complex. 

The full squad went through a two-hour session, with the first 30 minutes devoted to special teams, followed by individual position group work – all focused on the team's two-hour stadium scrimmage Thursday starting at 3 p.m. ET.
After two practice sessions Friday, the Eagles will close preseason camp Saturday morning with a practice in full pads, followed an hour later by the team's annual picture day, all in preparation for the season opener Saturday, Sept. 5, against Alfred (N.Y.). Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
Husson was selected as the unanimous preseason favorite to repeat as the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference champion Tuesday, marking the first time in league history a team has garnered all first place votes.
The offense features six starters of at least five games from a year ago: quarterback Joe Seccareccia, tailback John Smith, wide receiver Deon Wiggins and linemen Matt Archer,Seth Batty and Jon Walker.
The defense includes nine starters back from 2014: linemen Matt PellerinLuke Washburn and Jeff Turcotte, linebackers Ellis Throckmorton and Bryant Wade, safeties Rick Orioand Kenny Sweet, and cornerbacks Jordan Hersom and Marquis Jiminez.
