Sea Dogs to Host All-Star Game at Hadlock Field on July 15th
Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, will have five players participating in the 2015 Sullivan Tire All-Star Classic, which will be held at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine on Wednesday, July 15th at 7:00 PM. Infielders Carlos Asuaje, Marco Hernandez and Jantzen Witte will represent the Sea Dogs at the mid-summer classic along with pitchers William Cuevas and Robby Scott.
The All-Star Game will feature the Eastern Division All-Stars against the Western Division All-Stars. Each team will consist of 24 players. One position player and one pitcher representing each team was selected through online fan balloting. Remaining roster spots were filled through voting by Eastern League media, managers, and officials.
William Cuevas and Jantzen Witte were the fan selections for the Sea Dogs.
Second baseman Carlos Asuaje is hitting .240 (62-for-258) with 4 home runs and 36 RBI in 70 games
for the Sea Dogs this season. He leads the Sea Dogs in runs scored (36) and walks (37). Asuaje has reached base safely in 57 of 70 games this season, including 29 straight from April 19-May 22; the second longest streak in the league this season. The 23 year-old entered the season ranked as the Red Sox #25 prospect according to Baseball America. In 2014, he was both a mid and post-season South Atlantic League All-Star. The Weston, Florida resident was selected by the Red Sox in the 11th round of the 2013 June draft.
Marco Hernandez ranks sixth in the league in hitting with a .310 (70-for-226) average this season. The 22 year-old shortstop, has 17 doubles, 4 home runs, and 27 RBI in 56 games with the Sea Dogs this season. In 2014, he was a Florida State League mid-season All-Star. Hernandez was acquired from the Cubs organization on July 30, 2014 as the player to be named later in the trade that sent former Sea Dog Felix Doubront to Chicago.
Jantzen Witte is hitting .281 (74-for-263) with 4 home runs and a team leading 42 RBI in 71 games for the Sea Dogs. He ranks second in the league with 21 doubles and leads the Sea Dogs in games played (71), hits (74), doubles (21), RBI (42), and OBP (.361). In 2014, he was a member of the South Atlantic League All-Star squad. The 25 year-old has seen time both at first base and third base this season. Witte was selected by the Red Sox in the 24th round of the 2013 June draft.
Right-handed pitcher William Cuevas is 7-4 with a 3.75 ERA in 14 starts for the Sea Dogs in 2015. The 24 year-old leads the team in wins (7), ERA (3.75), and strikeouts (70). He ranks second amongst Eastern League starters in highest strikeout/ 9 IP ratio at 8.96 (67 SO/ 67 IP) in the Eastern League and his 70 strikeouts are tied for fourth in the league. This is his first professional All-Star selection. He was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on July 2, 2008.
Left-handed pitcher Robby Scott is 1-1 with a 2.04 ERA in 19 appearances (2 starts) with the Sea Dogs this season. Scott will make his second straight trip to the Eastern League All-Star Game. Last season he led Portland relievers with in wins (8) and ranked second on the club in appearances (35). The 25 year-old was signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on August 9, 2011.

The Hadlock Field gates will open at 3:00 PM on July 15th. Festivities include autograph sessions with the all-stars presented by the Asylum Sports Bar & Grill, the Electricity Maine Home Run Derby, and a post-game fireworks show presented by Coca-Cola.
