Portland, Maine – Portland’s Downtown District and the City of Portland are opening the search for the perfect tree to be installed in downtown Portland. The tree will be decorated with three-thousand LED lights and displayed in Monument Square for all to enjoy throughout the holiday season.
“This is our favorite time of year as we begin the search for the best tree for downtown Portland,” said Portland City Arborist Jeff Tarling. “We encourage Portland-area residents to submit their favorite tree for consideration as soon as possible to Portland’s Downtown District.”
Individuals can submit their recommendation for a 40-foot to 60-foot well-rounded, stately tree that is within 15 miles of Portland and needs to be taken down. PDD will accept submissions from the Greater Portland area, including South Portland, Cumberland, Scarborough, Westbrook, Yarmouth, Cape Elizabeth and Gorham. If selected, the tree will be cut down and transported downtown at no cost to the home owner.
Tree submissions should be sent to info@portlandmaine.com with a picture of the tree and the address and phone number for the owner. You can also mail a picture and contact information to Portland’s Downtown District at 549 Congress Street, Portland, Maine 04101.
The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Friday, November 29 in Monument Square. Rick Charette and the Bumblegum band will perform and a very special guest will light the tree at 6 PM.
