“As Congress nears the end of this fiscal year without having passed a budget or any appropriations legislation and, and as a result, is now quickly approaching the possibility of a government shutdown in just four days, the Senate did the right thing today by voting to pass a continuing resolution that allows the federal government to remain open while further negotiations take place.
“While I am pleased we passed the resolution, I am nonetheless tremendously disappointed that a relatively small number of people within the Republican caucus have put the entire United States Congress in the position of not being able to even debate a long-term budget and have played political games with the continuing resolution that threaten to drag down our economic recovery.
“Frankly put, these types of budget antics are irresponsible and only hurt the country at the end of the day. With today’s votes, the Senate clearly signaled that we want a functioning federal government that works for the American people. I hope my colleagues in the other chamber will feel the same and pass our continuing resolution rather than continuing to jeopardize our economy.”
