Mölnlycke Health Care Opens New Manufacturing And Converting Facility In Brunswick

Brunswick, Maine - Mölnlycke Health Care, a world leading manufacturer of single-use wound care and surgical products,  today held an inauguration ceremony at its new, EUR 35 million (USD 47 million) manufacturing and converting facility in Brunswick, Maine.  The facility is located on the city’s former Navy base, the redevelopment of which is being overseen by the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority.

The new factory is Mölnlycke’s second site in the state of Maine.  When fully operational, the facility will produce the Company’s Mepilex and Mepilex Border advanced wound care products for the American market, using foam produced at its Wiscasset plant, only 20 miles away.

Pierre Guyot, Chief Executive Officer of Mölnlycke Health Care, said:

“Increasing our production capacity in America is one of the key elements of our strategy for sustainable expansion and today’s opening reinforces our position as the number one player in the American advanced wound care market.  By investing in the conversion of materials produced at our nearby Wiscasset manufacturing facility we are improving the efficiency and security of our supply chain, as well as providing local customers with 100% American made products.”

“Mölnlycke Health Care has a long-term commitment to the State of Maine, including plans for further investment in the vicinity of our two existing factories.  As we build our presence in the region I hope to see the creation of a best-in-class R&D and innovation hub, where we can bring together our global expertise with the skills available locally.”

Phil Cooper, President of Mölnlycke Health Care’s Wound Care Division, said:

“I am extremely proud of our staff in Wiscasset and Brunswick, as well as our US sales teams, who in a very short space of time have achieved, and are continuing to deliver, significant levels of growth by providing clients exceptional products and service.  America currently represents some 20% of our total turnover, making it our single largest market.”

“I would also like to thank all of those individuals that have helped make our vision for Brunswick a reality, in particular the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority and the people and Governor of the State of Maine.”

Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, Mölnlycke Health Care’s history dates back to 1849, when it was founded as a textile manufacturer.  The Company became independent in 1997 and since 2007 is majority-owned by Investor AB.  The Company has over 7,400 employees across over 30 countries and has been present in Maine since its acquisition of Wiscasset-based Rynel in 2010.
