Camden/Rockport, Maine - Annie Kassler will lead a special Friday evening bat program at Merryspring Nature Center on Friday, August 16 at 7:00 pm.
The batstravaganza will begin with a talk about bats inside the Ross center. Kassler will provide an overview of bat natural history, physiology, and behavior before her update on the dangerous white nose syndrome, an invasive pathogen that is devastating bat populations in Maine and nationwide. After the indoor presentation, the group will head outside to look for swooping bats at dusk with the aid of a handheld bat detector.
Kassler is a speaker with Bat Conservation International and the Bat World Sanctuary and has developed connections with bat scientists and enthusiasts throughout the Maine and the United States. Kassler is also a full-time broker for the Camden Real Estate Company and has a background in academia.
This is a great program for families. Admission to this talk will be free for Merryspring members, with a nominal fee of $5 for non-members. All children will be able to attend for free. A limited number of bat houses will be for sale after the presentation.
