1,000 Words at CMCA

ROCKPORT, Maine - The Everyman Repertory Theatre, in collaboration with the Center for Maine Contemporary Art (CMCA) and Maine Media Workshops & College, presents four short plays on the theme of photography, on August 17, 18, 23, and 24. All performances start at 8 pm and the box office opens at 7.30 pm. They will be performed at CMCA within the setting of MENTOR: 40 Photographers/40 Years, an exhibition honoring the spirit of collaboration between master artists and their students fostered by Maine Media Workshops & College.

The plays are, in order of performance, are point and shoot by Michael John Garcés,  Please Send Pic by Sharyn Rothstein, overexposed by Michael John Garcés, and For Art by Nastaran Ahmadi.

The two plays written by Michael John Garcés are directed by Mim Bird and feature Tedecia Wint, Ryan Marshall and David Troup. Please Send Pic and For Art are directed by David Troup and feature Lou Carbonneau and Marie Stickney (née Merrifield). “We were discussing our continuing collaboration, Suzette McAvoy [CMCA’s executive director] and I, and she asked if there were any plays about photography. My immediate reaction was “No”. But then I did some research and found these short plays that deal with photography in serious and humorous ways while at the same time focusing in on the Everyman’s current season theme of domestic conflict; conflict in good ways and bad,” said Paul Hodgson, artistic director of the Everyman. “The whole project also exemplifies our mission, which is to collaborate with other arts non-profits in the mid-coast,” added Hodgson, “and it has just attracted a major grant from the Maine Arts Commission.”

Tickets are available at www.everymanrep.org or by calling 207.236.0173. As well as at local retail venues: Owl and Turtle and HAVII in Camden, the Reading Corner, Rockland, and Bella Books, Belfast. Tickets are $25, or $20 if purchased in advance. Student tickets are available at $10, though the plays are not suitable for children.
