Ellsworth, Maine - TEMPO: The Eastern Maine Pops Orchestra for Young Musicians will sparkle in two performances of the Christmas Cheer Concert - Saturday, December 8, 7:00 pm at The Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth and a reprise concert on Sunday, December 9, 3:00 pm at St. Saviour's Church in Bar Harbor. Conducted by Rebecca Edmondson and Ethan Edmondson, this thirty middle school and HS musicians from Central and Downeast Maine, between MDI and traveling as far away as Herman and Benedicta, converge every Saturday morning on stage at The Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth to blend their music in preparation for performances.
According to senior flautist Ranae Carlson, “The Christmas concert emphasizes the feeling of Christmas. It's a time where most people are happy and in good spirits so coming together with a bunch of wonderful musicians making great music makes it even better!
The concert repertoire ranges from familiar carols to unusual instrumental settings. The TEMPO musicians display the versatility of genres from the galloping strains of Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride to the march from The Nutcracker. Composition style will range from that of Gustav Holst to Samuel Barber. Concertmistress Isabel Bohrer and violist Danielle LeDuc will be featured in Barber’s Sure On This Shining Night. TEMPO’s tubist, Delaney Smith, will step from the brass section for a hornpipe solo. There will even be an opportunity for audience participation in a brief sing-a-long with the TEMPO instrumentalists.
Miss Carlson also reflects, “What makes TEMPO so special for me is that I have something to look forward to every Saturday. As an orchestra, we have so much fun together and it's always a positive atmosphere. At the same, we're still making great music. And the final concerts always make me proud to be a member of TEMPO!
