Rockland's New Mayor Is...

Rockland, Maine - Tonight Rockland has a new mayor by the name of William Clayton. Clayton was elected Monday night by the council as mayor for the next 12 months. He received votes from four of the five councilors. Councilor Elizabeth Dickerson cast a blank ballot.

The 33-year-old Clayton is Executive Meetings Manager and Wedding Coordinator for the Samoset Resort in Rockport. He was elected to the council in 2010 as the top vote-getter, with 1,194 votes in a three-way race for two open seats.

William Clayton is Rockland’s 18th and youngest mayor since the city began its current form of government.

Rockland mayor duties presides over meetings, oversees ceremonial events, meets with city staff to set council agendas and nominates people to municipal boards and commissions.

William Clayton served on Rockland Economic Development Advisory Committee, the Rockland Board of Assessment Review and the Rockland Personnel Board before being elected as councilor in 2010.
