Portland, Maine - Local organization provides important support for Kiwanis Pool
What: At Monday’s City Council meeting the Portland Kiwanis Club will present the city with $4,000 raised during the Lucky Duck Raffle held in August. The funds will support the Kiwanis Pool. Founded in 1917, the Portland Kiwanis Club is the oldest Kiwanis Club in Maine and for nearly a century, the club’s members have dedicated themselves to serving the community. Some projects that the club has worked on include the renovation and rededication of the Portland Observatory, which was purchased by the club and after restoration and rededication was deeded to the City of Portland in 1939, contributing funds for the construction of the Kiwanis Pool, the only public outdoor swimming pool in the city, which opened to the public in 1962, and on an on-going basis provide funds to support the city’s aquatic programs. More recently, the Portland Kiwanis Club has supported and fund raised for a number of local nonprofits.
